RAJA KANDASWAMY MUDALIAR

Raja Kandaswamy Mudaliar was born in 1793 A.D in Madras. But, he was seven years old when his father migrated to Hyderabad in 1800.

 Raja Kandaswamy came into contact with Nawab Sir Salar jung Bahadur I and become his most trusted lieutenant. He was appointed as a Liason Officer (Vakeel) for maintaining a regular contact between the Prime Minister Sir Salar Jung and the Resident of Hyderabad.

 For his extraordinary abilities as Vakeel, He was awarded the title of Taluqdar in 1847 A.D. He was awarded the title of Munsabdar in 1862.Three Jagirs were granted to him, Those were Anantaram, Laxmapuram Veerareddypali in Medchal Taluk.

For his extraordinary abilities as Vakeel, Taluqdar Abkari, Contractor, Taluqdar of Tanks, Building and Salt, Commissioner of Customs, etc. his multifaceted involvement in the administration, impressed the then Nizam VI. 

The Nizam VI was pleased to confer the title of Raja in 1869 A.D

 Later in 1869, Raja Kandaswamy Mudaliar was made The Minister of Customs under the HEH Nizam VI Government.

Charities:
           
Raja has constructed Sri Ramalingeshwara Swamy  Temple and Choultry attached to it in Raja Kandaswamy garden, in 1865. Also a small Sri Muthyalamma Temple in the same garden. has constructed Choultries, one in Kandaswamy garden , Another Choultry at Alwal, Anantaram, Bata Singaram, Laxmapuram, Veerareddypali etc. These Choultries were for travelers. Like wise Another Choultries were at Wadi.
Many more Choultries were constructed and wells sunk for the benefit of the travelers. He had purchased land at Narayanguda for Smashanam which had been encroached upon from all sides but still used as Hindu Smashana Vatika.

Raja Kandaswamy Market for Sultan Bazar area, was the only place available for Vegetable & Meat then. Nowadays vegetables are sold in two three places in Sultan Bazar. But one century ago Raja Saheb thought of a place for Market. Thus he constructed a market which is known as Raja Kandaswamy market. Behind this market, He also built a Church for the benefit of his Christian friends, which was closed for number of years but recently CSI has opened it for prayers on wednesdays.

Raja Kandaswamy Mudaliar died on 4-9-1876.
